The Drovers Inn. 1919
The Drovers Inn came up for sale in 1919, when it was owned by
Susannah Smith of West Tanfield and rented out to
Mr and Mrs William Henry Gross.
The sale, by Private Treaty, was held at the Black Bull Hotel, Ripon
on the 11th September 1919.
There was quite a bit of interest shown after it was advertised in the
Yorkshire Post and the Darlington and Stockton Times, on the
19th and 26th July of 1919.
Enquiries came from Leeds, Morley, Wortley, Hull and Tadcaster as
well as others. One said that they decided against buying the property
as it was “too far out of the world” !!
The sale was withdrawn after reaching a price of £600 made by
Mr Smith of the Tadcaster Brewery.
