An Agreement in 1874 between John William Hudson and Eleanor Linton
An Agreement made and entered into this in the Year 1874 between
Eleanor Linton of Laverton in the Parish of Kirkby Malzeard and
County of York Widow, of the one part and
John William Hudson of Swetton aforesaid, Farmer of the other part.
Witness that in consideration of the sum of eleven pounds of lawful
English money to be paid by the said John William Hudson his
executors or administrators unto the said Eleanor Linton her heirs
or assigns and the said Eleanor Linton doth grant bargain and let
unto the said John William Hudson all those three closes or parcels
of grassland together with the building thereupon situated at or near
Laverton aforesaid and of late in the occupation of John Ash for the
time of one whole Year to be and Commenced from the 25th day of
March and in or from Year to Year during the continuance of this
Agreement reserved unto the said Eleanor Linton or those whom
she may authorise the right of hunting, coursing, shooting or to allow
any other person to as the same and upon the said premises to

???? the state and condition of the same, the rent to be paid in two
instalments in each year that is to say one half on the 25th March then
the second half on the 25th September in each year respectively the
first payment to be made on the 25th September now next respectively.
John William Hudson his executors administrators or assigns shall not
lop, top, fell or cut down or carry away any Tree which may be standing
or growing upon the said premises under the penalty of five pounds for
every tree so cut down, injured or carried away and that the said
John William Hudson his heirs or assigns shall not plough, pare,
break-up or convert into tillage any part of the said closes or parcels of
land under the penalty of twenty pounds per acre or on in proportion for
any greater or less quantity than an acre that shall be ploughed, pared
or broken up, the said John William Hudson shall Consume all the hay
or produce upon the said premises and shall preserve all the manure
which may be bred during the Winter half year for the use of the said

Eleanor Linton or for oncoming interest according to the true intent and
meaning of this Agreement. And in Witness whereof the said parties have
hereunto set their hands the day and year first before written.
