The following is a transcription from a document dated 1687 showing all the
words spelled as they were originally.
This Indenture made the last day of Aprill in the fourth yeare of the Reigne of our
dread Sovereigne Lord Kinge James the second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland Kinge defender of the faith in the yeare of our
Lord God 1687
Between William Raynard of Skelden within the County of Yorke Yeoman of
the one partie and David Richmond of Skelden within the said County Yeoman
of the other partie
Witnesseth that whereas John Tophan of Burnsall within the said County of
York Clark deceased by his Indenture under his hand and seale and Inrowled in
his Majesties hie Court of Chancerie bearinge date the one and twentith day of
Aprill Anno Dom 1615 for the Consideration therein Expressed did Bargaine sell
and Alline and Confirme unto Thomas Huntinton Anthony Lumley
William Bramley Christopher Dufield James Duffield Nynian Leeminge
William Stevenson and Thomas Stephenson and theire heires for ever.
All those the tythes of Wooll and Lambe yearely cominge of and in the townships
of Grantley Skeldon Hungate and Rispliff in the said County by the particuler
thereof Mencioned of the yearly rent or vallue of Fifty shillings And also those
small tythes of the parishoners thereby the particuler thereof Mencioned of the
yearly vallue of Thre shillings fower pence all which said premises late weare
parcell of the late Chantry of St Mary the Virgine called the Chantry of our Lady
lost within the Collage gate Church of Rippon And also all and Singular Houses Edifices Buildings Barnes Stables Dovecoates garths gardens orchards
Tythe Barnes tythe of Corne graine Haye wooll Lambe Line Hemp and all other
tyethes whatsoever as well small tyethes as greate And also all the oblations
fruites yearly payments sume and sums of Moneye paid for by those or in ??????? crease in page ????????????? conditions? hereditaments
whatsoever with appurtenances whatsoever to the aforesaid Tythes and other
the premises above mencioned or to any of them by any means belonginge or
in any wise Appurtaininge or as Member part or parcell thereof for and under
the aforesaid yearly rents above Mencioned Ever or at any tyme heretofore
beinge had known used occupied or reputed
And whereas the said Thomas Huntington Anthoney Lumley William Bramley Christopher Duffield or by theire Indenture of Bargaine and Sale and Lawfully Executed bearing date the fifteenth day of March which was in the fifteenth year
of the Reigne of our Late deceased Kinge James of blessed memorie did for the Consideration therein Expressed Bargaine grant and Confirm unto
John Richmond late deceased and unto William Richmond and unto
David Richmond and to theire heires for ever All those the tythes of Wooll and
Lambe yearly cominge and renewinge within the townshipp or hamlett of
Skeldon aforesaid And also all the small tythes of the parishoners there by the particular Mencioned sums of Moneye paid for tythes and all other tythes profits
and Commodities To be holden of his Majestie his heires and successors of his
and theire Manor of East greenwithe in the County of Kent by Feallty onely in
free and Common Socage and not in Capitie or in knights service Yeildinge and
paying therefore yearly to our Soverainge Lord the Kinge most Excellente
Majestie that then was his heires and successors for the said tythes of Wooll
and Lambe Cominge and renewinge within the said Township Two and twenty
shillings of Lawful English Money to the hands of the Recievers generall of the
Duchie of Lancastre his heires and successors for the tyme being at the feast of
St Michell the Archagell and at the Annuntiacon of the Blessed Virgine Mary by
Equall portions for all other Rents and services whatsoever to our said Soveraigne Lord Kinge James deceased his heires and successors as in and by the said
several recited Indentures thereof made more at large Apeareth
And whereas the said William Richmond David Richmond and John Richmond
by theire Indenture of Bargaine and Saile bearinge date the Thre and twentith
day of June in the fourth yeare of the Reigne of our Soveraigne Lord Kinge Charles over England etc for the Consideration therein expressed did Bargaine Sell and Confirm unto William Raynard of Skeldon aforesaid All those the tythes of Wooll
and Lambe to him and his for ever and all other tythes whatsoever as well small
tythes as greate yearly cominge or renewinge of and within one farme sett Lying
and being in Skeldon aforesaid parcell of the recited premises beinge of the
Ancient yearly Rent of tenn shillings and fower pence then in the tenure or
occupation of John Raynard father to the said William Raynard
And also all those the tythes of Wooll and Lambe and all other Maner of Tythes whatsoever of what kinde quantitie qualitie soever they be cominge and renewinge and ? upon the out Moores Commons or wastes belonginge to the said farme or tenement comonly called Skeldon Moore with all and singular garths gardens
Tythe Barnes Tythe of corne graine hempe Line Haye Wooll and Lambe and all
other maner of tithes whatsoever as well small tythes as greate Cominge growinge arisinge and renewinge of and within the said farme or any part or parcell thereof
To have and to hold the foresaid tythes woole and Lambe and all other tythes whatsoever yearly cominge and renewinge of and in the foresaid Farme or
tenement together with all there Title Intrest Clayme and demand of them the
said William Richmond David Richmond and John Richmond of in and to the
same, unto the said William Raynard his heires and assignes for ever To be
holden of his Majestie his Heires and successors as of his and theire Manor of
East greenewith within the County of Kent, by fealty onely, by free and Comon Sockage and not in Capitie nor by knights service Yeildinge and payinge therefore yearly to our Soveraigne Lord Charles the Kinge Majestie that then was his heires
and successors for the tythes of the foresaid farme, the whole and just sum of
three shillings Eight pence at St Michaiell the Archangell and the Annuntiacon of
the Virgin Mary by Equall portions. The Estate of which said William Raynard deceased the said William Raynard partie to these presents by divers meane convaiances now hath.
Now this Indenture further witnesseth that the said William Raynard for divers
good causes and consideracons him here unto movinge Hath granted Bargained
Sold and confirmed and by these presents doth frely clearly and absolutely grant
Bargaine sell and confirm unto the said David Richmond his heires and assignes
for ever All those the tythes of wooll and Lambe and all other tythes whatsoever
as well small tythes as greate yearly cominge or renewinge of and within two
Closes Called or knowne by the name of Neither Sikes and West Close and part
of the said farme or tenement lyinge and beinge in Skeldon aforesaid and now
in the tenure Custodie and possession of the said David Richmond or his
assignes In as Large Ample maner and forme to all intents and purposes as our Soveraigne, late Kinge James by his hieness Letters pattens under the greate
seale of England and under the seale of the Duchie of Lancaster bearinge date at Westminstere the eight and twentith day of Aprill which was in the sixth yeare of
his Majesties Reigne and give and grant the same amongst other things unto
Francis Phillips and Richard Moore for ever And in as large ample maner
and forme as the said William Richmond David Richmond and John Richmond
did bargaine and sell the same premises unto William Raynard and his assignes
for ever To have and to hold the foresaid tithes of woole and Lambe and all other
the tithes whatsoever as well small tithes and greate yearly Cominge and
renewinge of and in the foresaid two Closes part of the said farme and all and
singular other the premises with theire appurtenances together with all intrest
Title Clayme and demand of him the said William Raynard of in and to the same
unto the said David Richmond his heires and assignes for ever to the onely
xprese and behoofe of him the said David Richmond his heires and assignes for ever. To be holden of his Majestie his heires and successors as of his and theire
Manor of East greenwith within the County of Kent, by fealtie onely by fre and
Comon soccage and not in Capitie nor by knights service Yeilding and payinge therefore yearly to our Soverainge Lord Kinge James the second that now is,
his heires and successors for the tythes of the foresaid two Closes the whole and
ust sum of Eight pence of Lawful English Money to the hands of the receiver
generall and all of the duchie of Lancaster for the tyme being at the feast of
St. Michaiel the Archangell and the Annuntiacon of our blessed Lady the
Virgin Mary by Equall portions and also yearly and every yeare the sume of one shillinge of lawful English Money at the dayes of payment aforesaid, beinge a Compossission Rent to be paid for all other rents services Exaxtion and demand whatsoever to our Soverainge Lord his heires and successors in any sort due and payable for the same.
In witness whereof the parties first above named to these present Indentures Interchangeablly have sette theire hands and seales the day and yeare first
above written.
